Light a candle

Since the advent of the electric light, candlelight has become more mysterious, more romantic and more powerful in our minds. I like candles.  I love their flickering light that often dances along with the music.  They remind of magic and celebration.  They spread light, pushing the darkness away for a time.  I even make candles.  I make them for different intentions, to remind me of different energies I wan to bring into my life.

There are lots of magical ways to use candles.  You can light a candle to honor a loved one who has passed.  You can use them to illuminate celebrations.  Use them as reminders of your goals and your hopes by carving the  intention into the candle.  Light a candle to focus on during meditation or set one aside in your home to communicate with whichever higher power you believe in. You can even light a scented candle to simple clear away a nasty odor.

However you use them, candles are an old magic.  They are symbols of hope.  Light one, enjoy it, and when you extinguish the flame, thank it for it's light.

Home made skin treatments

Skincare products are expensive!  Not to mention full of things that are hard to pronounce.

Here's a couple of my favorite skincare recipes.

Zit shrinking paste (Test this one on the inside of your arm if your skin is sensitive, as cinnamon can be irritating)

1 teaspoon of unpastuerized honey (I buy local wildflower honey)
1/4 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
1 drop lemon juice concentrate

Mix these ingredients together to form a thick paste.  Dab it on a pimple and leave overnight (I cover it with a band-aid to prevent stains on my white pillowcases).  Wash it off in the morning. It usually will shrink a pimple and reduce redness to the point that cover up is more effective.  Mixture will keep a few days covered at room temperature.

Milk and honey bath

1/4 cup powdered milk
1/4 cup honey

Add these to bath to help soften and hydrate skin.  If you'd like add a couple drops of rose, chamomile or orange essential oil.

Sunburn Relief

Distilled water
Peppermint essential oil

Begin by gently wiping vinegar over the burned area.  This takes away some of the sting.  Shower off.

Mix distilled water with 10 drops of peppermint oil and shake.  Spray on skin to cool the burn.  Store in the fridge.
