Whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year, it is a time of hope and celebration. This mini ritual is one my family has done together several times. We've done it on Winter Solstice some years, and other years, it was on New Years Eve. Whatever you choose will work fine. You can even include this in a holiday party as an alternative to New Years resolutions or Christmas crackers.
Give each person a slip of paper and a pencil. Write down your wish for the year- "I hope to be happier this year" or "I will lose weight" or "The perfect job is coming to me". For children, they can draw a picture or get a grown up to help write out their wish. My kids like to keep theirs secret. Roll up the wishes, forming a spiral. Hold that wish in your hand under the starlight of a winter sky, and really concentrate on seeing your wish fulfilled. Conjure up the gratitude you'll feel and the happiness. See how your life will change. Once you are filled with these emotions, toss the slip of paper into a fire (if you don't have a fire place, a cast iron or high fired ceramic container on a heat resistant surface will do). What the paper feed the flames. This releases the energy into the Universe, not to mention it reaffirms the rebirth of the light celebrated by Yule and New Years.
May your holiday wishes be fulfilled and fulfilling!
