Parenting experiment

Lately, my boys have pushing me far beyond the limits of my patience (and my husband's, too).  I'm tired of yelling (with doesn't work), and I don't want to be walked all over.  My husband and I devised this little system for showing the kids, literally, how good or bad they have been throughout the day.

To combat this set of behaviors, and give the kids a visual reminder of how much patience we have left, we put ten marbles in a jar with their name on it. Each time they yell, scream, beat each other up or fail to do their chores, rather than yelling, we take a marble out. At the end of the day, if they have five marbles or more, they get a treat. if not, they lose TV privileges for the next day.  They can earn marbles back by being extraordinarily good, too.

So far, the kids are very conscious of the results of their behavior.  What unusual, creative or strange ways have you used to settle the drama at home?
