DIY facial masks

I flat out refuse to pay a huge amount of money for beauty products (in fact, the most I'll pay is $25).  Many things can be made a t home for a fraction of the cost, and can be customized for your skin.  These are a few of my favorite  facial mask recipes.

Yogurt mask (exfoliates):

1 Tbsp  plain yogurt (trust me when I say the flavored ones will not work right)
1 Tbsp mashed banana or avocado for dry skin (optional)

Mix together and apply to clean, moist skin.  Leave on for 10 minutes.  If you experience burning, remove immediately.

Clay mask (absorbs oil):

1 Tbsp ground green clay (kaolin)
1-2 drops peppermint oil
1 drop chamomile oil
water or tea (add a little at a time until you achieve a thin paste)

Leave on for 5-10 minutes.  I use this one when my T-zone gets overly oily.  The rest of my skin is very dry and this mask makes it worse.

Activated Charcoal mask (deep cleanses):

1 tsp activated charcoal (medicinal quality)
1 tsp rose or orange flower water
1 dash salt
a few drops of aloe vera juice
a drop of glycerin (optional)

Leave on 10-15 minutes

You can also incorporate these into a ritual to reveal your own beauty or as part of a detox/healing ritual.  Pour yourself a glass of clear, cool water or make a cup of nourishing tea, light a candle, and see yourself glowing from the inside out.  Drink your  drink and breathe deeply, allowing all of the negativity inside yourself to seep out.  As you remove your mask, imagine removing all of the accumulated baggage you have about your appearance.  Splash with cool water or your favorite toner, smile at yourself in the mirror, and say "I am beautiful. I appreciate my unique beauty.  I radiate light."

I recommend you spot test all of these recipes before you put them on your face.  Allergic reactions and skin sensitivities can happen to anyone, but your face is an awful place to have one.
